Fladam's Musical Comedy Hootennany #edfringe #edfringe22 review

Adam Sowter and Florence Poskitt have come up with a silly but fun show that’s enjoyable from start to finish. It’s got a kids TV feel; however, it’s not aimed at kids, nor is it for adults only. This leaves me intrigued and wondering who the target audience is.

The loose theme of this show is an inheritance that they’re only entitled to if they successfully perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

There’s nothing ground-breaking and no great gag writing in this show. It is musical comedy and it’s the music part of that description that stands out most. However, I did enjoy a great play on words that made me laugh; they referred to the artist Big Mac and MC Flurry.

The opening song was great. It name checked a lot of comedy double acts - from Morecambe and Wise to the Chuckle Brothers. For a comedy fan this is a real highlight. Other songs of note are the one about Disney and the risky one about cats.

There’s also a showpiece moment. For Flo, it’s the Christmas truce song and for Adam, it’s his Jools Holland-like boogy woogie, both of which really highlight the performers' talents.

There are a couple of silly dance routines that I found funny, but I can’t help feel they didn’t maximise their full potential.

As a comedy show I feel it would work better either specifically aimed at kids, or as a parody of a kids show for adults. Nonetheless, it is entertaining and a great family friendly way to spend an hour.
