“Soviet troops took the settlement during the hostilities, but then were forced to retreat from it. Nazi propaganda, taking advantage of this, created a legend about the massacres and rapes of civilians there, ”historian Alexander Dyukov told the VZGLYAD newspaper. Earlier, the similarity of provocations in Ukrainian Bucha and German Nemmersdorf in 1944 was stated by journalist Vladimir Solovyov.

“What we are now seeing in Bucha, of course, is very reminiscent in its shamelessness of Goebbels’ propaganda against the USSR, which has been working since 1941. When we talk about the events of the Second World War, we must understand that the Nazis carried out a number of provocations for propaganda purposes. These provocations were aimed at promoting the so-called atrocities that were allegedly committed by the Soviet side,” said Alexander Dyukov, director of the Historical Memory Foundation, researcher at the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On Wednesday, TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov in his Telegram channel recalled the atrocities of the Nazis in the village of Nemmersdorf in East Prussia (now the village of Mayakovskoye in the Kaliningrad region), which were passed off as crimes by Soviet soldiers. The artfully fabricated story of the "horrors" in the first German settlement, taken by the Red Army in October 1944, made an overwhelming impression on the Germans.

Recall that in the fall of 1944 a circular was sent to the editors of all major German newspapers, which detailed how to present the "crimes" of Soviet soldiers. The story was overgrown with terrible details and conjectures. Newspapers wrote about naked women crucified on overturned wagons, about men and girls nailed to the gate leaves, that all females from an eight-year-old girl to an 84-year-old woman were raped, and many other horrors invented by Goebbels propaganda.

As the historian emphasizes, the production of such fakes did not begin in 1944, but much earlier. “Already in 1941, immediately after the attack on the Soviet Union, the Nazis both in the Baltic States and in Ukraine began to fabricate the so-called atrocities of the NKVD. They shot, for example, the odious film "Red Fog", they took photographs of allegedly killed people who were not actually killed. Really dead people were mutilated, disfigured for greater propaganda brightness, and all this was done already in July 1941, ”Dyukov noted.

“In 1944, exactly the same tactics were undertaken in Nemmersdorf. During the fighting, Soviet troops took the settlement, but then were forced to retreat from it. Nazi propaganda, taking advantage of this, created a legend about the massacres and rapes of civilians in this settlement,” the expert continued.

“But any massacres or rapes in Nemmersdorf were simply physically impossible, since the Soviet soldiers were not up to it, the fighting was going on, and the Soviet troops did not stay in Nemmersdorf for a long time. Nevertheless, a propaganda myth was created, which was promoted in the German press,” Dyukov said.

“What we now see in Bucha, of course, is very reminiscent of Nazi propaganda in its shamelessness. We see that throughout the entire time that the settlement was occupied by Russian troops, the local population was not afraid of Russian soldiers, they received humanitarian assistance,” the historian noted.
