Regarding dpei's departure

Hi, my name is Brenda and I am the GM and “management” being referred to by David/dpei over the past few days. I feel the need to address the situation seeing how much it has blown up the past few days with only one perspective and misinformation. While I normally do not discuss employee departures, I am saddened the rest of the team is being caught in the crossfire and want to clarify some facts. Please remember there are real people and real emotions involved.

David quit his role with the Gladiators- I did not fire him, nor did I want to. Unlike what was stated on stream, he was the one who interrupted a meeting and demanded to talk immediately. Before we could enter the elevator to talk outside, he announced he was quitting because of the misalignment of priorities and goals between himself and the organization. Since this came after weeks of late-night conversations around his uncertainty for the future, his decision was not surprising. It's incredibly disappointing to hear him discount the countless hours spent listening to and discussing his needs over the last two years. The steps I took to prioritize his mental health were used as accusations that we were "behind" and "slow to the game" to move on the offseason. I’m not sure what led him to feel like he was personally attacked in the last meeting but he left no room for a conversation when he abruptly left.

After he departed, he sent several messages to confirm his resignation as he did not see a path forward with us. I did not have an opportunity to respond or speak with him before he followed with his own public announcement. So in line with his request, we submitted his resignation to HR and followed procedure, which includes removing access to sensitive company assets.

As a manager, I have always put people first and supported our teams in the best way I can.
David was a pillar of this team for four years and I share the community’s disappointment that his unhappiness was not resolvable. But his legacy, passion and love for the team is undeniable and will always be embodied in the team.
