About Sodafunk

Sodafunk is a guy. Yes I said it.
(By that statement I meant Sodafunk, the owner of the channel "Sodafunk Ch.", the one who makes the clips, the one who benefits from the channel. The voice actress for the "Sodafunk" character who voices the "Hi Honey" and the "Hololive Acting Interview" clip is probably a real girl though. However, I'm not sure what her relation is to Sodafunk the channel owner or to the channel itself.)

I will preface this by saying that this is not a personal attack nor is it an attempt to cancel him. This is just a warning for his fans, if you want to support them, this is what you're getting into.

How do I know about his gender?

Back in December of 2020, me, Sodafunk, and a bunch of other HololiveEN clippers started a discord server where we all can have fun and talk about whatever. We also used said discord server to organize HololiveEN rewind that we did last year. As we bonded closer together, naturally we started playing games together and Sodafunk taught me how to play Apex, among other things and we naturally used voice chat.

We were all doing well until around 2 months ago. Everyone and their mother were posting "Hi Honey" clips and some clippers, myself included, joined in on the fun. To our surprise, when Sodafunk uploaded a "Hi Honey" video, it wasn't his voice. It was a cute girl. Now, me and the other clippers don't know what his relation is to this girl, so we started to make jokes about how he might have hired a fiverr girl to voice this "Sodafunk" character and whatnot. He appeared to have responded well to our jokes. However, starting from the next day, he was never active in that discord server ever again.

As for evidence that he is a guy, sorry I don't have any proof since I have never recorded any of our conversations or anything along those lines. The closest thing I have to a proof is that he deleted all credit for his outro (example of him crediting the outro singer: https://web.archive.org/web/20201217022928if_/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRGbhWR_V9Y), presumably to sell the illusion that Sodafunk sang the outro without ever technically be lying about it. Also some people have informed me that he blocked the term "jesskayley" from his comments.

Over the next few weeks and months, we started to notice some strange behaviors from him. First, we noticed that he revoked our (me and other en clippers in the discord)'s status as moderators on his channel. And when one of us commented under one of his video, he instantly deleted the comment. He also changed his discord name and profile picture at some point which led some of us to believe that his discord might have been hacked. We decided to kick him from the server as a safety measure, but we also told him through twitter dm that he may join back if he ever wanted to.

We thought the "Hi Honey" clip was a one and done deal. However, we were very wrong.
He uploaded the Hololive Acting interview.
He interacted with Ollie and exploited the fact that she thought that Sodafunk really is a girl to gain views and popularity.

Now, I almost went over the edge and exposed him right when he interacted with Ollie on twitter (https://twitter.com/SodaFunkCh/status/1414859245279866883), but some of my friends managed to talk me out of it.

So why am I doing this now?

At first, of course I didn't want to expose him. He was someone who I regarded as a friend and I didn't want to ruin his internet career just like that. However, after I thought about it for a bit, "exposing" him like this won't be career ending. He is, and will probably always be the most recognizable and iconic clipper, whether this facade that the channel owner and the voice actress is one and the same falls or not.

The reason I'm writing this now is that it has come to my attention that he enabled membership and superchats for his channel. And I'm not okay with him taking his fans' money by lying to them. That's about it really.

Personally, I'd say if after reading this you still want to go simp for them, go for it. However, I just want you to know that if you ever donated or joined their membership, you're probably benefitting Sodafunk the channel owner more than the voice actress of the character "Sodafunk", whom you all know and love.
