20th May 2020 from TwitLonger

Just over 5 years ago, I was offered a job at The Coalition as a Community Manager. At that time, I’d never visited the studio, I barely knew anyone there, and I’d never even visited Vancouver (or even been to Canada).

But the second that offer hit my inbox, I jumped. It was Gears – not just my favorite franchise in gaming, but the root of my career as a Community Manager with the Gears fan group GCON. I can’t even describe how exciting it was to be part of the story of a new chapter for Gears and representing fans officially. It was my an absolute dream.

Today, I wanted to let you all know that Tuesday May 26th will be my last day working at The Coalition. As difficult as it is for me to leave Gears, I’ve decided to move back to the UK for the foreseeable future.

The Gears community is rough. It’s sharp. It’s loud. And it's absolutely brilliant. We’re a passionate bunch because we all care so deeply about this franchise. Even when that manifests into harsh words, it's all worth it because we are lucky enough to all be part of something that matters that much to all of us –as devs and fans. I’ll miss that a lot.

What makes leaving right now especially tough is the shift changes I see coming for Gears 5. We know we’ve missed the mark in a number of areas, but your voice is making a difference to the future of the game. In the coming Operations, you’ll see your words turn into meaningful changes and features that deliver on what you’ve been asking for. I can leave saying I’m proud of where the team is headed, and by the time they are done, I hope you are too.

I’ll be here for the next week to continue helping the team and helping transition my workload to Dana, Tyrus and Andius. We’re looking for a new Community Manager too, so if you think you’d be a great at this, please do apply!

Otherwise, I’ll hope to see you on this week’s Developer Stream for a final appearance. Thanks for everything Gears Fam. I’m looking forward to being a fan alongside you all once more.
