SMAZ 2020 has been postponed.
As you all know, COVID-19 has thrown a wrench in everything that was planned to happen in 2020, including SMAZ. The SAK gaming lounge, where the event is held, and many other businesses are facing the negative effects of the laws and limitations imposed by the nation’s quarantine order. Their maximum occupancy has been limited to just 10 people for the time being, which is a problem when trying to host a 3 day long speedrun marathon with close to 100 attendees.
We have tried reaching out to the owner of the SAK gaming lounge in hopes of receiving some information on when they expect to resume normal operations. We have had no response from the owner as of today.
We have no plans of cancelling the event, but because of these current situations we are being forced to postpone SMAZ 2020 to a later date. Currently, we do not have an exact time frame of when we might be able to host the event due to the lack of communication with the SAK gaming lounge owner, but for now we are figuring it should be postponed to some time in late July or early August 2020.
We will keep everyone here updated with new, relevant information as it comes in. Submissions for SMAZ 2020 will now remain open until July 10th for those who wish to submit later as the event draws closer.
The SMAZ staff do not want to risk the health and safety of attendees, runners, and SAK gaming lounge staff, which is why we believe this is the right move. Feel free to DM @DylWingo with any questions, comments, or concerns you might have.
