Sam’s Meet and Greet in English, November 30, 2019

Sam Meet & Greet in English
This is not an all inclusive account, but it will take you through the main points of what was said. At the end, I specify what Sam did NOT say.

I had input in writing this from 4 other people who were in the room, very near to Sam. I asked them to add or delete anything I got wrong. They added a few things but did not find it necessary for me to delete any of this.

Sam talked about the “Sassenach” brand, smooth blend, tartan design (a challenge getting it named that because it’s a derogatory term, and it convinced the official registry that it’s a term of endearment now because of Outlander). He praised the designer and said they’re coming out with another new one. People commented how quickly things sold out. He is very happy and proud of Sassenach. The bottles are made in Italy, and the packaging/box is beautiful.

Sam spoke about his 2 movies. With Bloodshot, CGI was mostly his legs but the fights were real, not stuntmen. One gal said she has Vin’s autograph. There were some jokes about how he signs.
Sam enjoyed working with Ruby, who still calls him her “husband.”

He talked about being a producer on Outlander, how educational is has been seeing projects from start to finish. The first 1/2 of season scripts were already written when Cait and he became producers. Their input comes more in the last few episodes. He is very excited about season 5, especially the second half and the finale.

He told us that Diana’s script for episode 511 required no notes as other scripts normally do.

The topic of Claire and Jamie carving initials on each other’s hands has been tried twice, but didn’t work out. I suggested they could do it in a flashback. This triggered Sam to ask what flashbacks we would like to see. I said Jamie and Claire there for Jem’s birth. He said it wasn’t feasible for them to be back in time given the distance they would have to travel in that time. I said, Claire could do it.

He was asked about where the season 5 premiere would be. He said he suspected in LA.

Sam was asked if he could confirm that Jon Gary Steele is leaving as set designer. He did confirm it and went on to talk about the great job he has done. He mentioned the big house, his favorite being Claire’s surgery with its detail and brick floor.

The Peak Challenge videos were brought up. He is flying to LA soon to work with John.

He was nostalgic about how far Outlander has come and how Jamie has aged. He contrasted his impetuous actions as a young man of 23 with now turning 50 and becoming a leader of men. Sam said he looks back and realizes the show will eventually end. He mentioned that other shows that were big when Outlander began are now gone.

Diana’s killing Murtagh was brought up, and Sam said he is aware of her thoughts (“once she kills a character, they stay dead,” as one fan quoted), but he respectfully disagrees, thinking it is great for Jamie to still have that one link to his family and Scotland with him.

Categorically, Sam did NOT use the word “bribe” to describe Golden Globe nominations. He did NOT say they don’t use the Jamie and Claire story enough. He did NOT say Cait and he understand grievances and want to change things, too. He did NOT say anything about adding or deleting a sex scene. He did NOT say Jamie gets treated like “meat” or anyone wanting to add drama. He did NOT say Sony and/or STARZ wants him to do more drama and less connection. He did NOT say he wants a job and has to do what they say. He did NOT say the decision for Jamie & Claire to not be back for the baby’s birth was one of the “stupidest” decisions they ever made.

The five people (including myself) have nothing to gain by contradicting the false report except knowing the truth has been told.

Now, let’s put this topic behind us and enjoy sharing our photos and discussion about what DID happen.
