Leaving the Pittsburgh Embers

Shame to say that my tenure with the Pittsburgh Embers will be abruptly ending. After nearly a month or two of waiting on payment for graphics I have done, including the full rebranding for the Embers, I made this decision since the company did not want to act on it- but rather trail me along.

On arrival with the company, the owner gave me his assurance that I would be paid per commission rather than being on a contract. That was fine, as I spent my trial period developing this rebranding closely with him and his image of the Embers' identity. He promised to send me some forms, one being a W9 form (for taxes) and the other being an NDA, to fully transition me into my role as the lead graphic designer. None of such forms were sent, yet I was transitioned into it anyways. My assignments not only included the rebranding but a pitch deck too so that they could market towards sponsors.

Back around late August, the company promised good news when they received word of a sponsor reaching out to them. The owner directly told me that they might be able to bring me on full time. Sometime around August 30th, he told me that if they can't bring me in full time that they'd get something structured sorted out for me. Once high standing details were sorted out, they promised me to stick it out with them- everything falling into place accordingly.

Upon making my frustration aware to the owner, he requested that I fill out a W9 so I could be paid per unique design. I rounded it out to about 30 dollars (45 if he wanted the shirt design I made). In my own experience, I was not required to fill out any tax forms for being paid (in a lump sum) much more by prior companies. Why do I need to fill out a W9 to be paid 30-45 dollars?

TL;DR - Embers didn't pay me on time, rather delayed a lot of it.
