Most of what we did at Uni during Law was making distinctions, attempting to prove that one thing is not like another, since that's the principle of arguing case law and precedent. The distinctions however minor between the case law and the current case were extremely important, since they determined whether or not previous precedent would end up being applied. Years of writing essays based around that will put you into the mindset that nuance is vital and accurate definitions are king.
