Sooo... This is funny.
http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/article/2014/jul/01/introducing-scorecards-tv-networks/
This is a truth-rating system for news networks. I've always said that Fox News is mostly full of crap, and MSNBC is basically the same thing on the left as Fox News is on the right.
It's nice to see independent analysis proving what you thought you knew.
Politifact used to just rate claims from candidates and talking heads, but now they're rating whole networks, using their Truth-O-Meter, which rates, top to bottom:
True
Mostly True
Half True
Mostly False
False
Pants On Fire
Along with the rating, they nearly always have very thorough, sourced explanations telling how they came to the rating they did.
According to Politifact, fully 46% of the claims made by MSNBC/NBC pundits are rated Mostly False, False, or Pants On Fire.
Over at Fox News? It's actually worse, with 60% of the claims made by their pundits categorized as Mostly False, False, or Pants On Fire.
Both of these are just about how I would have expected them to line up.
CNN? Only 18% of what they said falls to the false side of the Truth-O-Meter. That's still about 18% too much, but it's a far cry better than 48% or 60%!
How much of what Fox News has said is at the top of the Truth-O-Meter, getting a rating of "True"?
8%!
How about MSNBC?
9%!
Seriously, people shouldn't be watching either of those networks. But this does go a long way toward explaining the complete disconnect Fox News viewers seem to have when discussing actual facts with them. They can't believe what you tell them simply because they've been fooled into believing Fox News is truly "fair and balanced".
They're not. They're idiots.
