Leaving Guild? What's next? Casting? Coaching? Management?

Leaving Guild.
I am grateful for the opportunities, the learnings and the memories gained in the last year and a half. As one of the earliest members at Guild, I have seen pretty much every one of it’s staff, players and content creators join. I will miss working with you, being inspired by you and helping grow the Guild project together.

So much to be proud of whilst at Guild, being regional winner and multiple top 4 during RLCSX were amazing accomplishments, but seeing the players grow and develop is what I'm most proud of.
One of the great things about being a part of an organisation from the start is helping bring in amazing people to fill roles. Seeing content creators, staff and contractors who have all excelled in their work at Guild who I recommended whilst also helping educate those who came from out of esports about our wonderful industry was incredibly rewarding.

To the team:
Good luck with the RLCS 2021-22 season. I know we put a lot of work into bettering you guys’ Rocket League ability and were starting to see those results in practice the last few weeks. I hope you can find this form in a tournament setting as the way you play on your good days can win tournaments for sure.
I would have loved to help support you through the rest of the fall split, but my departure will pose as a nice reset for you guys to go ahead and take all you have learned into regional 3.
It definitely felt like things changed during the off season and I hope you find your feet again and am sorry for anything I may have done to make that harder for you to return to form.
I invested a lot of time, passion and energy into you guys and have many great memories. Don't let this be the end of your journeys as I want to cheer for you guys one day in the final, maybe even having to stay unbiased whilst commentating it ;)

To the supporters:
I am sorry. Every team I have worked with has improved and it’s something I take great pride in, this is the first time this hasn’t happened and I am truly sorry to anyone who was let down by our recent results. I tried everything I know how to do to support the team and it wasn’t good enough to get the results you expect. You can never know fully how much a coach is the reason for a team’s results but if I take pride in the teams I have helped improve then I must also take responsibility for the teams that don’t. I believed I was doing everything I could, but there are always different methods, different ways to communicate and motivate, different ideas to coach and on this occasion, I chose incorrectly.

What’s next?
Casting? I have a bit of time to choose my next path and am excited at what it could be. Definitely miss being on camera and working as a commentator/analyst so will be looking for opportunities to get back involved in that. Whether it be smaller scale broadcasts like we have seen in the RLCS swiss shows or maybe even bigger opportunities, it’s something I miss and am interested in exploring.
Any esports projects? Having coached in some form, whether it be sport, strength and conditioning, Rocket League or whatever little hobby I help others in, I am ready to try something outside of coaching. I want to do something where I am rewarded for my work, not the work of others. I have found it hard to convert working harder, smarter and longer hours into results from those whom I have coached as there is always a limit as to what you can achieve. Coaching? I have a huge amount of respect for the world’s best coaches, teachers and carers as it’s certainly an area I have much to learn in and develop before revisiting as a full time job. I am still interested in supporting teams on some short term work even if it’s just a team or coach who wants to get a 2nd opinion, happy to help. Any other stuff? Open to anything esports and/or performance focused right now but won’t be rushing in unless it’s the right role so please do reach out if you have any ideas you think I might be the right fit for.

Thanks for all the support throughout my time at Guild. I had hoped to nurture the next world champion team but it was not to be. Watch this space, I’ll be back and bigger things are coming.

Cheers,

Gregan :D
