Why Mel's story regarding leaks wasn't written by her and pushed by Atlantic.
Hi.
I want to preface this by saying to please keep Occams Razor in mind.
Now.
We all know Melanie Martinez barely has any access to her social media, her label took it over.
Her Tumblr? Inactive for 5 years.
Her Twitter? Just announcements, the last likes that seem to actually be from her were in 2019.
Her Youtube? Her descriptions where she'd leave personal notes to her fans have been edited out.
So it is clear that her label also has complete access to her instagram.
Let's examine the wording of the post.
"IF YOU ARE A GOOD HEARTED PERSON READING THIS..."
That's guilt-tripping. Would Melanie ever truly do that to anyone, let alone her fans? No.
In her story regarding her break-up with Oliver, she emphasised more on the importance of spreading positivity and to encourage her fans to think about their behaviour, not sternly giving them "a talk".
"PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THE SONGS. IN FACT REPORT THEM. DELETE THEM. STOP SHARING THEM."
That sounds awfully a lot like a cease-and-desist letter, no? This basically says "Oh, you listened to Ring Pop once? Wipe your hard drive, trash your pc, report yourself to the police, turn yourself in to the FBI, and go to jail."
Once more, completely unlike her.
"IF YOU ARE IMPERSONATING ME AND MY TEAM AS WELL AS PRODUCERS I'VE WORKED WITH IN ORDER TO MANIPULATE YOUR WAY INTO GETTING UNRELEASED SONGS (THAT I LITERALLY NEVER WANTED TO USE) YOU SIMPLY AREN'T A FAN.
That's odd. Melanie stated on multiple occasions that she really did wish she could have released a lot more songs - like 99 Cent store or Haunted. Or songs she did perform live and/or had up on your youtube channel before Atlantic got ahold of it (Pre-Dollhouse EP). (Dear Porcupines, Night Mime, Birthing Addicts...)
Doesn't this all sound extremely out of character for her?
Onto the background: Usually when she makes text-heavy stories, she uses mood lightning or anything she took with her own camera in her immediate area. This is a stock-photo as found on any generic tumblr, like someone who runs her social media rushed to find an image that matches her aesthetic.
(And yes, you can make/post instagram stories from a PC.)
Lastly, let's take in some context:
Only five minutes after she posted this, she posted another story of a sand castle she built.
Would you do that if you were truly so upset/mad? No. Of course not.

Of course, there are songs Melanie is against leaking; however, these fall into 2 distinct categories:
-Songs up for release (MM3s that aren't scraps)
-Personal Songs (WDBCF. We don't know any other songs.)
However, these are the exception, not the norm.
What harm is there in a studio version of an old song performed accoustic leaking? Or Crybaby scraps that we all love and enjoy?

Let's summarize this:
-The entire text is completely out of character for her
-Atlantic has easy access to her instagram
-She said multiple times that she is okay with **SCRAPPED** songs leaking, while her label isn't
-She doesn't seem upset about this.
Well, to me it is quite clear: Atlantic wrote a cease-and-desist, slapped hearts onto it, and basically tried to save themselves some revenue.
