Statement on our assistance to Blizzcon:
On behalf of the committee we apologize for not being able to give you a more transparent explanation of what has forced us to make the decision to ask the community for financial help.
Travel expenses of Team Spain were 100% covered and confirmed. Seeing that the date of the
Blizzcon was approaching and we still did not receive the money to book flights, we began
questioning our sources.
On October 1, flight's costs were starting to rise and were about to get out
of budget. Urgently, we met with the sponsor and informed us that, despite backing up our project, he currently did not have the money for it. If this had been known before, we would have taken it onto our own hands from the beginning as other OWWC Teams have done.
After an emergency meeting held last night, we agreed that the sponsor had a week to get the
money to at least fly us out to LA. As we cannot stand idly waiting for something that we have not 100% closed, being just three weeks away from Blizzcon, we have had to take complicated decisions quickly.
- From the committee, we want Spain to, at all costs, play the OWWC, because they deserve it more than anyone and we have worked very hard for it. Therefore, if finally the sponsor does not get the money, we have opened the donations as a last desperate attempt to send, at least, the six players to compete, leaving the committee and the 7th player in Spain.
- We need a grand total of 7.000€ to fund flights and accommodation of the players.
- Unfortunately we have had to cancel the "Community T-shirt Event" because it required an
investment from a private entity that will be used to try to reach the donation goal, taking into
consideration that they cannot assure us that the T-shirts will arrive 100% before the team flies to LA. (The winner of the contest will still receive the stipulated prize).
During these two weeks, various activities will be organized including members of the community to try to collect all the possible help to fly the Team to Blizzcon. October 20th has been set as our deadline to achieve the goal.
We apologize for the instability image the Team has given this last week, but we are really trying to do everything in our hands so Spain has representation in this event.
