Thoughts on Relegations, etc

‪Shoutout to @ThatsAdmirable for being open with how intense GM feels as we get towards relegations. It kind of led me to want to share how I feel about GM.

‪It’s heartbreaking to know that for a lot of people, relegation means the end of their HS career as long as the current system exists. ‬

‪I know it’s entertaining for viewers to watch people play for their careers, but after all the dust settles, it’s going to be sad seeing some big names leave the scene.

I don’t wish relegation on anyone but at the same time there’s plenty of non GMs out there that deserve a spot.

I know I probably say this a lot but as we see big names quit, I think it’ll become more apparent how important a tier 2 system is or at the very least more reasons to play hearthstone.

Right now, the drop off from GM is back to square one and we know how hard it’s been for those grinding open cups. Even if you wanted to produce content or become a steamer, there’s very few competitive outlets. It’s really just Masters Tour and GM and that’s pretty much it. Even when you’re qualified for the next MT, what are you supposed to play for in the meantime?

The last round of fixes to the competitive system are good but to be honest, they were low hanging fruit. I believe the resources exist to make a better system (like 2018 for example) so hopefully we see some massive changes in the coming months or even years.

As for myself, I’m going to focus on playing the best hearthstone I can play. I want to continue competing even with all the systematic issues. I just hope I won’t be relegated by the time things get fixed.
