Houston (Texas) Cy Ridge defensive tackle Vernon Broughton was part of a big Ohio State official visit weekend and his trip to Columbus could not have gone much better.

“It went well,” Broughton told Bucknuts. “I got to see campus and talk to the coaches.”

Talking to the coaches of course included Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

“Coach Johnson told me what he has in store for me,” Broughton said. “He said I could have a great career there and play my first year if I work hard.”

Broughton made the trip to Columbus with his mother, grandmother, brother, sister and cousin. Broughton’s player host over the weekend was freshman defensive end Zach Harrison.

Broughton has previously made official visits to Arkansas, Texas and LSU. He will make an official visit to Texas A&M June 21.

“I want to decide soon after that, but probably not the week after it,” Broughton said.

Broughton said he does not have a leader, but the Buckeyes have definitely put themselves in the running.

“I’m not saying Ohio State is the favorite, but they left a big impression on me,” Broughton said.

The 6-foot-5 and 286-pound Broughton is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 70 overall prospect, the No. 6 defensive tackle, and the No. 10 prospect in Texas

The Buckeyes have long had two running back targets at the very top of their 2020 running back wish list, Bijan Robinson from Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic and Kendall Milton from California. Milton made his Ohio State official visit the weekend of May 31. This weekend it was Robinson’s turn and the visit went very well.

“Man I loved it,” Robinson said when asked about the visit. “Besides all the glamor and all that stuff, the football talk, attention to detail, and the family culture they have is amazing.”

Robinson is being recruited by Buckeye running backs coach Tony Alford.

“Me and coach Alford’s relationship is tight,” Robinson said. “Being around him and his family was great.”

As one would expect, Robinson also spent plenty of time with Ryan Day.

“He is awesome,” Robinson said. “We talked a lot during the trip, but at the end when we all really spoke on things, it was good to speak about different things.”

Robinson has a list of scholarship offers that includes Ohio State, Texas, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama and Michigan.

“Very, very high,” Robinson answered when asked to describe his interest now in Ohio State. “OSU (is a) different level.”

However, Robinson has more official visits to take.

“That was the first one and I got USC tomorrow and then Texas on Friday,” Robinson said.

Robinson’s player host was J.K. Dobbins.

The 6-foot-0 and 200-pound Robinson led Salpointe Catholic to the Arizona state championship game and a final record of 13-1 record last season. Robinson had rushed for 2,300 yards and 34 touchdowns heading into the last game of the season - a game Salpointe Catholic lost to Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro.

Robinson is a 5-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 22 overall 2020 prospect, the No. 4 running back and the No. 2 prospect in Arizona
