2-year 100% post doc position, philosophy of medicine/bioethics

Do you have a background in philosophy of medicine or bioethics, and want to work as a post doc in a project on medical screening? Most welcome with your application!

Duties
The selected candidate for this position will work with a research program that examines subjectivity, agency and normative aspects of medical screening programmes. The program combines phenomenological analyses of lived experiences of embodiment, health, normality, illness, and risk with an analysis of the co-emergence of technological, socio-political, economic and ethical dimensions when screening technology is developed and used, and contributes to screening ethics. The selected candidate will primarily work with philosophy of medicine and bioethical analysis within the sub-project “Conceiving and performing pre-conception care.”

The subproject “Conceiving and performing pre-conception care” examines the case of preconception carrier screening, which is performed in the Netherlands. Through this screening, couples can be screened for an increased risk of having a child with one of circa 70 recessively inherited conditions. The successful candidate is expected to work independently and together with other researchers within the research team. Teaching can be parts of the tasks within this position (maximum 20% of the position). Analysis of already collected interview material - interviews with couples who have been offered this screening, and health care personnel – can also be part of the work within this position.
