LGBT and FGC
(Sorry for any odd wording)
I just wanted to touch on how I feel about the LGBT in the FGC and elaborate on a statement I made.

For me personally, I feel offline In the past 3 years I have never had a moment where I felt uncomfortable about being gay or have been hounded or anything of the like in person. At least to my face. Before I came out however which was about 4 years ago, I wouldn’t have dreamed of coming out and trying to play games.
An example of me feeling this way, was a session where I was mentioned to someone as “why would you listen to that Faggot?” There was other gay slurs and stuff tossed around and as much as I harp on about context, it was not something I felt safe to do if I wanted to be able to play games.
In this day an age though, “IRL” situations in general seem to have calmed down and people do not tolerate it in any shape or form sending the community into a great place to actually just be yourself.
The other side to this equation in my opinion, is the twitter/twitch/discord etc of things. The amount of hate and stuff that gets spewed out in the form of tweets or twitch viewers when any of LGBT gets on stream(Trans people getting the worse of it) is truly disgusting. It’s actually toxic and dissuading of anyone who is LGBT and new to the FGC to even want to be apart of it that is all they see.
A recent example would be that Tampa Bison tweet. You can find it if you need to, but that’s the type of stuff I’m referencing. Yet there is some positive stuff in there.
You have stuff like SonicFox staring basically every time he wins something that he is gay, which is really cool in a sense because media picks up on that and The articles I’ve seen spawn because of it have been positive. There is also ally of support when people do decide to come out or even spout troubles so I can’t say it’s really all bad but I will say when it is Toxic it doesn’t tend to have an antidote.
Anyway, these are just my opinions I would love to talk about it more I feel sometimes there isn’t enough talk about it.
