Some Quick Horizon Thoughts

Horizon's real good. It took a little while for me to learn to love it, mostly because I was also playing Nioh at the time, and really, I wanted to do was play Nioh all day.

But even as someone who doesn't typically like the "Far Cry style" of open world game, which Horizon absolutely is, it eventually won me over. I'm playing on hard and while I wouldn't say "This is the way the game is meant to be played," it gives a harsh and unforgiving vibe to the world

Like Far Cry Primal, there's a great feeling of being near the bottom of the food chain as you're walking through its world. That in order to survive, you need to outsmart rather than outmuscle. Sometimes that means tying down a bunch of enemies so you can focus on them one at a time; sometimes it means setting traps; sometimes it means focusing on a specific body part first, even if it's not a weakpoint, because it disarms their most dangerous weapon. To even have to think about that kind of stuff against regular enemies is incredible.

Some downers though, the voice acting of quest giving NPCs is some of the worst I've heard in a AAA game in a long time. The lack of any kind of sorting mechanic in the menus makes inventory management miserable, especially when you're looking to sell. The limited fast travel system also sucks. I get why it's there, but it slows the game down to a crawl at times.

Sorry these are very fragmented thoughts. I originally was going to do this in a series of tweets, but then I decided not to be obnoxious and just put it in one twitlonger post lol.
