Society for Philosophy and Technology’s 20th biennial conference, Darmstadt

Dear SPT members,
We look forward to seeing many of you at the Society for Philosophy and Technology’s 20th biennial conference, in Darmstadt, Germany June 14-17, 2017. As a reminder, the December 5 deadline is approaching for abstracts/proposal submissions. The complete CFP is available at the conference website, here.

The overarching conference theme is ‘The Grammar of Things’; however, abstract submissions are welcome on any topic in the field of philosophy and technology, broadly construed. Submissions may draw on contributions from history of technology, cultural studies, design theory, anthropology, art history, cognitive psychology, computer science, engineering education and other fields related to philosophy and technology.

ALSO: the SPT Board is thrilled to announce our new Graduate Student Paper Awards (includes travel stipend) as well as the SPT Early Career Award, sponsored by the Springer journal Philosophy and Technology. These awards will be presented at the closing session of the conference – see the CFP for details on how to be considered for either award.

Complementing the overall conference theme, five special tracks for SPT 2017 have been proposed. Each provides its own Call for Papers:

A New Planetary Orientation for Philosophy of Technology in the Anthropocene? (proposed by Vincent Blok., Pieter Lemmens, Jochem Zwier, and Hub Zwart)
Artefacts, Design Practices, and Engineering Knowledge (proposed by Sabine Ammon, Rafaela Hillerbrand, and Sjoerd Zwart)
The Philosophy of Biomimicry (proposed by Vincent Blok and Henry Dicks)
Technology and the City (proposed by Michael Nagenborg, Remmon Barbaza, Margoth Gonzalez Woge, Taylor Stone, and Pieter Vermaas)
Technology Translations: Philosophical Interactions across Disciplines and Application Domains (proposed by Albrecht Fritzsche)
For submissions to the main conference and more details, visit the conference website here.

We hope to see you all in Darmstadt!
