RE: Youtube scams & shenanigans + a note on disclosure
First off, it's good to see all the skeevy shenanigans & scams by Youtubers & companies finally being called out by the media. It's about bloody time! It almost always seems to be the people with no sense of moral decency or responsibility that get ahead in the world of money & business.
Some of you have been asking and yes - I have had MANY offers of money to promote games, consoles, products etc including a few that offered to pay me to talk positively about the product on Youtube & social media. And no, I've never accepted any. Feck that.
In the interest of disclosure & transparency, here's a list of the stuff I've done that could be considered 'paid' promotion, in one way or another.
'I Want My RPG' - Paid promotion from Inxile to promote Bard's Tale (disclosure is in vid description)
'Digital Shadow' - Got a trip to Paris with Ubisoft to play Watch Dogs early, in return for doing this song which let's be honest, I would have probably done anyway. I made a video on my channel disclosing this arrangement.
'Take It Back' - Created it to have mutually beneficial cross promotion with Bioware for ME3. No money involved though.
'Cries Of A Dead World' - obviously sponsored content, as it was the in-game credits song for Wasteland 2.
I have not included when I get sent free copies of games as I consider that an intrinsic part of my job & there are too many to list. I get free games from companies sometimes (For example Witcher 3, Dark Souls 3, many Ubisoft titles) but there is never a contract and I only ever do songs if I was genuinely inspired by the game.
I think that's it. Will be sure to keep letting you guys know when any future work is paid or promoted.
Keep rockin'
