Regarding the Dark Souls songs:
So the reception to my second DS3 song has been amazing, thank you to everyone for the kind words. It was something that I really wanted to get right after some of you felt disappointed with Fires Fade. I personally felt that song was the best work I had done while creating it and it was heart crushing and deflating to release it and see so many negative comments. (However it is also the fastest growing video on my channel ever, with over 400,000 views in a fortnight - so I must have done SOMETHING right, haha)
Listening to constructive criticism has always helped me to grow as an artist and I did my best to take some of it on board while creating the second song. I'm very glad (and relieved) that the reception was so positive!
I'm not a machine that can just pump out great songs by clicking my fingers - it often takes hundreds of hours of work and effort to make just one song. I can spend weeks on end agonising over melodies, lyrics, the mix or the musical parts. Sometimes what excites my ears (the only true way to judge music for me) won't excite yours. Accepting that has been tricky but it's a learning experience.
Both songs did seem to gather a lot of negative response on my Russian VK fanpage, just like most of my recent work. This makes me sad because I don't know how to fix it. I just do my best to make things that I like to listen to myself and hope that other people dig it. The vast majority of fan feedback has been that the new songs are better than anything previous so it's hard to gage. Maybe it's diminishing returns, maybe you're just bored of my style? Who knows.
I hope the rest of 2016's songs make you guys happy. Got lots of cool stuff planned :)
Big love - Gav
