I know, I could make more money posting the streams myself. I just don't think it fits the channel. Sure, we do longform content, but it's far more organised than that. The podcast has a structure, some semblance of production value (ish) and its length makes sense. The Lounge/aka Secret Sundays is a unique show driven for the most part by its star power and also has a structure. Just streams of me randomly playing a game with nothing but unorganized thoughts and frequent swearing isn't what I want the Youtube channel to be. I like streaming, it's a lot of fun. It also helps me a great deal with my critiques later because viewers often point out things I miss. I don't want that process to be part of our Youtube channels content though. To me, you should keep streamed content on a stream. VoDs of streamed content are just lazy and low value. If you're going do it in a way that makes sense for Youtube. Trump is a great example of that. His editor takes raw stream content and turns it into forms which are more pallatable for the Youtube audience. Could we do that? Sure, we've done it a few times with highlight reels, but I don't really like those being a regular thing, more a rare, out-of-character amusing treat every once and a while to remind people that we're not super serious about videogames all the time. So yeah, that's why I let people upload my VoDs for free. I don't want to lock them behind a paywall and we've also started rerunning the VoDs 24/7 on the Twitch channel so you can catch stuff you missed without a subscription before it hits Youtube, however Twitch only allows you to either lock all your vods behind a sub wall or none of them, you can't choose. The alternative would be deleting the Co-optional VoD after the livestream, because VoDs on Twitch make almost no money at all and Co-optional on Youtube has become our highest grossing show thanks to Youtube rid and the effectiveness of midrolled ads. Early access to those VoDs is a little thank you to our subscribers and fits in with my principle that subscription is a service, not a donation. You are paying for real, tangible benefits by subscribing to the Twitch channel and I am ok with that, whereas I wouldn't feel right just taking money from people for no reason when we already make enough already. Don't take that as a condemnation of streamers that do make their living by actively pushing donations and subs, they are totally in their rights to, it's just not something we wanna do or need to do. Personal hangup, if anything.
