Those asking about real-time software compression. You'd be surprised how little OBS/Xsplit support proper ASIO stuff. It's actually a pretty major issue I have with both platforms, especially now that people are wising up and buying prosumer audio interfaces. My RME Babyface audio interface can do all this stuff and more, but it doesnt matter because Xsplit and OBS can't "hear" the processed audio. ASIO is a sound card protocol that lets you do cool shit with your audio interface. The problem is, if your streaming program doesn't support it, none of that cool shit gets on the air, it just hears the standard, run of the mill mic sound. I've been asking Xsplit for ASIO support for years but they haven't done anything with it and neither has OBS. The sticking point, at least so I've heard, is that ASIO requries exclusive access to your audio device so you wouldn't hear your game. I am not 100% sure if that's true though. I record my video commentary using ASIO with Adobe Audition all the time and it does not affect my game audio at all. Maybe there's just something about it I don't fully understand. All my audio knowledge is mostly just piecemeal stuff I found online and trial and error anyway, so it's more a case of "if it aint broke, don't fix it. if it is broke, bodge it until it isnt".
