Some people were a bit confused as to why I got an iPad Pro and not a Surface Pro 4. It comes down to usage habits. A Surface Pro 4 is a really powerful tablet that runs the full version of Windows. That's obviously great for a number of purposes, but one of the advantages is that you can use your PC software away from your PC. Thing is, I don't actually want to do that. When I'm away from my PC, the only thing I'd like to be able to do is put my PC games up on a big screen, which Steamlink does very well and Surface 4 does not, since its running integrated graphics. If I want to use editing software away from my PC, I'll have my laptop with me to do that, a Surface wouldn't help there.
Basically, the Surface doesn't have any advantages when doing the things I do with a tablet, which is playing media and casual gaming. An iPad gives me access to iOS software and iOS is where most of the tablet software is. Same reason I dont use an Android tablet, the software selection is smaller and the stuff you can do on Android like emulation isnt actually something I wanna do on a regular basis. The more open nature of the Android platform doesn't factor into my usual usage habits for a tablet, though it does with my phone (which is why I use an Android phone over an iPhone). For watching and listening to stuff, the iPad Pro has a big, high resolution screen that looks great and the 4 speaker config sounds awesome, since most of the time I'm using it I'm not using it with headphones. For casual gaming, which is what I usually do to unwind in bed before sleep, iOS has the best selection of titles and honestly, since iOS has some stuff you can't get elsewhere, it makes sense to own an iOS device of some sort and I much prefer the iPad over the iPhone. Airplay is also very convenient for just tossing media up on the projector without any hassle, since we have an AppleTV plugged into it. For regular use, you wanna minimise hassle, which that setup does. Go to bed, hit 2 buttons, watch media on the wall. No fuss. I'm not looking for a laptop replacement, which is what a Surface Pro 4 is often used for. I don't need one of those, what I want is a nice big tablet with a nice big high quality screen and access to a bunch of stuff I want to use and play on a touch-screen. iPad does that, Surface Pro 4 does that less effectively, so iPad Pro it was for me.
Anyway, if I actually want a PC tablet, I've already got a Razer Edge and that thing kicks the Surface Pro 4s arse in terms of power since it has a real gpu and an actual controller case for gaming. It's also heavy, impractical and a battery hog, but hey :P So yes you can stop crucifying me now for daring to own an Apple product. We own a bunch of every platform, it's a techie household, kind of our job.
