Those wondering why we still have a 2 day delay for uploading the podcast. In reality its more like a day and a half, but the way things work out is that when the podcast finishes, @zoocdoesstuff (who edits and uploads the show) is usually asleep (since he's on eastern european time). I upload the locally recorded raw VoD rather than the Twitch VoD, so that VoD viewers dont experience any hiccups the livestream had (which is usually about 7gb, so sizeable) to the dropbox overnight. When he gets up in the morning, he's got the file and then he edits it. Sometimes this requires 2 separate re-encodes. Adobe Premiere sometimes decides to desync the audio (we're not 100% sure why, rumour has it it's to do with streaming producing variable bitrate files rather than constant bitrate, something Premiere doesn't really like to work with).

One solution to this is to transcode the file into a different format before putting into Premiere. On a 3 hour video this takes time. Sometimes there'll be an audio desync anyway, even with the transcode, which requires fixing manually. This is a time consuming affair since it requires multiple tiny changes to the video, in which the audio is bumped fractions of a second either one way or the other to bring it back inline with the video playback. Then once the VoD has been edited (breaks removed, little bit of compression added to the audio to even things out), the VoD is encoded again, so that's another 3 hours of video being encoded, which takes a bunch more time. After that, the VoD is uploaded to Youtube and Youtube processes the VoD before making it available to the public, which has been known to take anywhere from an hour to a day (Youtube really doesnt like videos that are that long and its processing time is seemingly random).

After all this is over and done with, it is possible, that we could have the show out on a Wednesday, but not reliably. Sometimes we would pull it off, sometimes we would not, simply because of the nature of that show and the various roadblocks in the way of getting the edited version up on Youtube. As a result, we would prefer to reliably have the VoD available 2 days after the live broadcast every week, rather than sometimes have it up earlier and sometimes not and then have people complain everytime it didn't make it up there early. That hopefully explains the process and why the 2 day (really 1.5 day) gap between broadcast and upload isn't really arbitrary, it's just how things tend to reliably pan out over time. We don't purposefully delay the Youtube VoD to drive Twitch subscriber numbers. An interesting stat, only around 25% of our Twitch subs actually watch the Co-optional Twitch VoD.
