What's interesting is with that big marshmallow lollipop from Mexico I instantly saw the Golliwog resemblance, but apparently that wasn't a big thing in the US so some people are confused as to why I thought it might have been a little bit racist. Golliwogs were a big thing in England and Australia for a long time, it was only relatively recently that people were like "actually no this is probably kinda racist, just look at it". I mean hell until very recently they were still on sale in the UK, they were used as mascots by some brands for a long time. Basically the dolls were very much the "black minstrel". We didn't have anywhere near as much of the blackface minstrel stuff in the UK but we did have the Golliwog, which is pretty much identical to that big marshmallow lollipop in the Mexico candy box, which is why I pointed it out. I actually had no idea that the US didn't really do Golliwogs, when I was a kid they were still reasonably common in the UK.
