My latest thoughts on the word 'extremism'

It's now my view that the word 'extremism' is in reality more of an emotive buzzword than it is actually meaningful. As it stands, this buzzword seems to be used as an umbrella term with which a number of disparate and unrelated things are labelled. Hence, rather than arguing over definitions of such a word and calling for satisfactory ones, I think it would be more rational, honest, fairer and would make things clearer for everybody if the term was altogether dropped as a label for ideas, beliefs and actions in favour of adopting terms that capture precisely what it is that is being objected to, such as 'bigotry', 'immorality', 'illiberalism' etc. I think this would allow everybody to perceive more clearly the nature of the objections and exactly what it is that we're talking about and dealing with. This would hopefully, in turn, allow for and help pave the way towards more rational, meaningful and constructive debate and discussion on the relevant issues.
