Hundreds of years ago, people used to look up into the sky and see comets as portends of doom. Lightening storms and volcanic eruptions were the displeasure of the gods. You'd think that in the 21st century we'd have left these patently preposterous assumptions behind us. Yet many still see hurricanes and earthquakes as evidence of god's wrath and astronomical events as signs of the end of the world. When oh when will humanity grow up?
