Kevin Sumlin on his three quarterbacks battling to replace Johnny Manziel: “You’ve got the old veteran (Matt Joeckel), the young guy who played some last year (Kenny Hill) who obviously now has a sense of urgency, and the new guy (Kyle Allen) who just shows up and threw some great balls today. What I like about them is you see them talking to each other, and (offensive coordinator) Jake (Spavital) is doing a great job with them. They’re being competitive but not combative. They’re helping each other.
“It’s still early and as we start to see different things from our defense and put in more offense … we’ll see. But I was pleased with the tempo, how they got their signals and how they operated the offense. As time goes on and we put more and more on their plate, we’ll see how they perform.”
