Spy Chief Calls Leaks on U.S. Surveillance ‘Reprehensible’ - http://s.shr.lc/172LJYA - http://s.shr.lc/10VBLVn.

Who can tolerate these jokers? They believe they're doing the right thing!

Let's give Clapper the benefit of the doubt. Let's say he respects the Constitution, and believes what he says about national security. Where do citizens and public servants like this come from?

The most destructive totalitarian leaders always thought they were doing right by the people they led. They never saw themselves as bad people. They always said their actions were for the greater good.

The leaders we have now betray us, and say it is for our own good. They try to scare us, and say they will keep us safe. They watch us to make sure we don't do anything wrong. By degrees, we become scared, not of the threats they warn us about, but of them. We can't trust our public servants, and we learn to fear them.

"Totalitarianism is never content to rule by external means, namely, through the state and a machinery of violence; thanks to its peculiar ideology and the role assigned to it in this apparatus of coercion, totalitarianism has discovered a means of dominating and terrorizing human beings from within." — Hannah Arendt
