The benefit/detriment of used games pretty much balances itself out. Sure devs/pubs don't see that revenue from used game sales, but consumers sell old games so they can afford new ones. A gamer who buys Mass Effect for 10 bucks becomes a fan and will be more likely to buy ME2 and 3 new when they come out.

Fact is, games will survive if used games exist. Always have, always will. For game retailers and rental services like gamefly and goozex, the future isn't so certain. Thousands of people could be out of a job and that's not something to celebrate.
