I wonder, is this merely the natural outgrowth of a sincere belief that god intervenes in the natural world? Since most Christians pray for and expect healing (and then, after doctors use science to heal, attribute it to god anyway) why is this wrong? Why not cast all your hopes on divine healing? If A) god does indeed care about our suffering and B) god does indeed use miracles to heal the sick, is this not logical? After all, when a patient who's receiving medical care AND fervent prayer, dies, it is said that was god's will. So why not just cut out all the proverbial middle men and just pray for healing? Would not the result be the same? Does the fact that most Christians don't behave this way show, not that they think god helps those who help themselves, but rather that, when forced into a corner, they'd rather go with what they have evidence for (modern medicine) rather than what they merely want to believe works? Whatever the answer, these two should go to prison for the rest of their lives.
