It is worth remembering that biological creatures aren't the only things that evolve. Religions do too. Almost certainly, Christians of the medieval era would look upon modern believers as spineless, lukewarm and cowed by culture. Doubtless, 500 years from now, contemporary believers will, in all likelihood, have a hard time recognizing the moral engines of future generations. And this is as it should be. While religions insist they are stalwart bulwarks against culture and time, adhering to unchanging moral absolutes, they are nothing of the sort; they too are eroded by progressive morality and thank goodness for it. If they were not, Christianity would be as barbaric today as Islam is.
