Want to know the REAL reason the Republicans shut down the government? It's a strategy they've been (semi-secretly) working on since the late '70s called "starve the beast". If you google the term, it'll pop up. Here's a link explaining it:

Once you understand this strategy, it's much easier to understand why "small government Republicans" like Reagan and GW Bush grew the government (and the debt) at such a tremendous pace.
