"Warrior" – a pygmy review: #Warrior was something very special and very unexpected. Despite being about #MMA, a sport I care nothing for and perhaps, to some degree, even disdain, this story, about two feuding brothers who find themselves facing off against each other in the ring, was spectacularly well told and deeply emotional. Many sports films naturally excel showing individuals at play, but fall flat showing the home life necessary to make those characters worth caring about. "Warrior" is as comfortable when the gloves are on as when the gloves come off. The two broken brothers (#TomHardy and #JoelEdgerton) and their good-for-nothing father clawing his way back to redemption (played brilliantly by #NickNolte), were so palpably human that you could not help but feel as if you somehow managed to inhabit their souls, alternately moving back and forth between taking and delivering hits. A silly conceit on the surface, "Warrior" did a remarkable job of forcing the audience into a dilemma rare in these sorts of films: how do you root for the good guy, when the fight is between two good guys? And what happens when our desire to win smashes headlong into our desire to love? The final bout was watched through a blurry veil of steady tears. I had no idea a film of this nature could be this moving.
