If there was a way to make all guns disappear, I'd be all for it. ALL for it. But that's not reality. I think it's idealistic and unrealistic to think we can get rid of guns in this country. It's an emotional issue for the Left just like abortion is an emotional issue for the Right. The Left has a LOGICAL position in abortion, as does the Right with gun-control issues. And ultimately that's why the Left wins on abortion and the Right wins on this issue.
There's only one way to stop a mass murderer like this: overpower them. Guns weren't his. He used pistols, not "assault weapons".
I know it's a difficult logical leap to make. And I know that from an EMOTIONAL perspective, it's easy to blame the guns. This happens, and it's easier to get mad at the tools used than to try to make sense about why someone like this would do something like this. I get that. And I have the same initial reaction.
But as logic comes around, I realize the only way to stop something like this is to overpower them. And that probably means shooting them to stop their rampage as early into it as possible. People like this will always get weapons. He could have just as easily taken gasoline cans and lighters and done just as much, if not more, damage. We need to stop getting angry about his tools and start getting angry about why we don't take mental health seriously in our country, and why we don't have means at schools to stop things like this once they start.
I've been moved to tears repeatedly over the last 24 hours. I don't want this to keep happening.
Defenseless children need someone to defend them when stuff like this happens.
