My readers know I'm a frequent critic of Israeli overreaction, disproportionate aggression and human rights abuses. And I will continue to be. But as much as I feel Hamas and the Palestinians have legitimate and even violent grievances, this new strategy is preposterous. Of course, Israel is going to respond when rockets rain down on their cities--as well they should. And thus far, their strikes have been surgically precise. While I too mourn the loss of innocent life, one cannot bind oneself to an aggressor and then cry foul when one is bloodied beside him. Hamas' actions this weekend will only maim the already beleaguered people they represent, and give Israel an excuse to show off in front of Iran. Hamas, for all your bluster--emboldened by the sham support of Arab Spring allies--you will be transformed into mincemeat if a ground invasion commences.
