"GNASHING OF TEETH AND SCREAMING OF SOCIALISM!"
Let's take a trip down Obamacare lane, so that we can quit saying it with the same tone that we use saying "pedophile" or "Hitler". Shall we?
We pay for universal healthcare right now. It's called the Emergency Room. Now, common sense dictates that its better to prevent fires than it is to fight fires, right? Obamacare gives preventative healthcare a chance to make us a healthier, more productive nation. Not to mention, the cost of an ER visit for the flu is substantially more than a simple clinic visit. And here's the kicker: EITHER WAY, WE PAY FOR IT. If you're shopping at market for eggs, and their are two identical dozens there, but one costs $50 and one costs $3, which do you buy? Obamacare gives us the chance to pay for the $3 eggs and that's just good common sense.
Shan, I have private insurance, so why should I give a rat shit either way? Well, I have private insurance too. My company provides me with really great healthcare insurance as well as dental and vision insurance. (Insert shout out to those dudes) But I work in a competitive business. I believe I have job security but things happen. If I lose my job, Obamacare ensures that I can still get coverage.
Obamacare says that the hourly employees that work for me will be offered insurance. Now the people calling off work will more likely be afflicted with the brown bottle flu and not simple, preventable illnesses. In short, my staff will be more effective, happier, and healthier.
Socialism? Let's find out what that means, folks. Is it socialism that your tax $$ pay for safe roadways? If it is, is that wrong to you? Do my taxes go to pay for your child's education when I don't have children? Should I stop? It's hard not to tell those yelling "SOCIALISM!" to GET BENT. I, personally, am thrilled to pay my taxes to educate your little snotmonsters. They are our booger eating future.
This one's for the LAAADIES--Do you gals know that you can be charged more for the exact same coverage extended to our testicle bearing friends? You know in your mammary of mammaries, this is not ok. Obamacare makes this not ok. The Spice Girls are not the only gals rocking Girl Power. Sister Friend President Obama is.
You may have a Grandma, I have a Mem. I can't tell you what my Mem means to me. Words aren't enough for this matriarch who learned to run my family's business at a very advanced age after she was widowed. She did this with grace and aplomb and still found time on the weekend to make my sisters and I crinkle cut fries from the Fry Daddy(our favorite). I want my grandmother to have free preventative care, reduced & sometimes free prescriptions...basically savings on her care to help her stay healthy. My sister Cheryl cares for her and gives so much to all of us in doing so. I want my sister's costs, to be deferred in any way they can be. I want my Mem, who has given so much, to still feel as if she is making a contribution to her own life by what she's paid into this great country over her lifetime. She didn't retire until age 89...do you think this is a woman who is a "taker"?
Guys, I don't think that Obamacare is perfect. I do, however, think that this is a president who has been brave enough, certainly knowing that taking such a bold step could cost him a reelection, to take the first step in making healthcare something we don't have to fight tooth and nail to get. I stand behind that type of bravery. And just a side note for those of you threatening to move to Canada if he is elected a second term...good move, their healthcare system has been universal for years.
