I have concluded that gun-rights advocates, while just as saddened as everyone else at mass killings like the one this weekend in Colorado, see the dead as essential, inexorable and requisite collateral damage to their so-called freedom. To paraphrase Jefferson, "The tree of the Second Amendment must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of sacrificial victims and martyrs. It is its natural manure." If you built a society that allows access to firearms on this level, incidents like the one in Colorado should not come as a surprise whatsoever. And it is only a matter of time until it happens again. And again. And again. Are you ok with that gun-rights advocates? Clearly and demonstrably, you are.
