Dear Secretary Pompeo

Let me start by expressing my gratitude towards the primary role that this administration, through the department of State, have played in the process to recover democracy in Venezuela. It is without a doubt, the United States the one country that has shown the most interest to solve the crisis of Venezuela.

For many years, the regime invested time and resources to arm paramilitary groups in order to attack unarmed civilians and to confront the military in case they decided to turn their back on the regime. During the past weeks, we have been witnesses of the atrocities that a tyrannical regime, like the one led by Nicolas Maduro, is capable of doing to stay in power.

These paramilitary groups, known as “colectivos”, are creating terror among Venezuelan citizens and committing all type of horrible crimes without being held accountable for their actions. In other words, impunity is the law that governs Venezuela. In accordance to the firm position that this administration has had towards Venezuela, we, the Venezuelans, believe that it is important and necessary that the Department of State recognizes “colectivos” as a terrorist group, and treat them accordingly.

In the same way, we want to point out our concern regarding Elliot Abrams statement in which he assures that activating article 187.11 of the constitution of Venezuela would be a “premature action”. Rejecting the use of force during these critical times strengthens the regime and weakens the legitimate presidency and the citizens who are fighting for freedom. We encourage the current officials and Mr. Abrams to reconsider the message he wants to send to the Venezuelan regime, its victims and the world.

There is no way to state the urgency of this action. The oppressed citizens of Venezuela are expecting a tough answer from this administration and compromising to issue a formal statement where “colectivos” are considered a terrorist group (with all the consequences that it brings) would show the people, the allies and enemies that the United States has not retreated from this cause. On the other hand, it would show that the United Stated is still leading.

We expect hearing a response to this proposal in order to continue this liberation process.

Empiezo expresando mi agradecimiento hacia el rol protagónico que esta administración, a través del departamento de estado, ha tenido en el proceso de la recuperación de la democracia en Venezuela. Indudablemente, los Estados Unidos ha sido el país que ha mostrado mayor interés y compromiso en resolver la crisis de Venezuela

Durante muchos años, el régimen ha invertido tiempo y recursos en armar grupos paramilitares para atacar civiles desarmados y confrontar a los cuerpos militares en caso que dejaran de proteger al régimen. Durante las últimas semanas, hemos sido testigos de las atrocidades que un régimen tiránico, como el que lidera actualmente Nicolás Maduro, es capaz de cometer para quedarse en el poder.

Estos grupos paramilitares, conocidos como “colectivos”, están causando terror en la ciudadanía venezolana y cometiendo todo tipo de crímenes sin poder pagar las consecuencias de sus actos. En otras palabras, la impunidad es la ley que gobierna en Venezuela. En concordancia con la posición firme que esta administración ha tenido hacia Venezuela, nosotros, los venezolanos, creemos que es importante y necesario que el departamento de estado reconozca a los colectivos como grupos terroristas y que se les dé el trato correspondiente.

De la misma manera, queremos aclarar nuestra preocupación con respecto a las declaraciones de Elliot Abrams en las cual tildó de una “acción prematura” la activación del artículo 187.11 de la constitución de Venezuela. Rechazar el uso de la fuerza en estos momentos críticos fortalece al régimen y debilita a la presidencia legítima y a los ciudadanos que lucha por la libertad. Exhortamos a los representantes actuales y al Sr. Abrams a que reconsideren el mensaje que le quieren enviar al régimen de Venezuela, sus víctimas y al mundo.

No hay manera de destacar la urgencia de esta acción. Los ciudadanos oprimidos de Venezuela esperan una respuesta contundente por parte de esta administración y comprometerse a emitir una declaración formal en donde se le de carácter de grupo terrorista a los colectivos (con todas las consecuencias que con ellos trae) le demostraría a la gente, los aliados y enemigos que los Estados Unidos no se han retirado de esta causa. Al contrario, demostraría que siguen liderando en este momento histórico.

Esperamos escuchar una respuesta a esta propuesta para poder continuar con este proceso de liberación.
