WSOE Official Statement on WSOE 4: The Rocket League Showdown Semi-Final Match

To all fans of Rocket League, WSOE, and especially to Cloud9 players and fans,

We know there was some confusion over what exactly happened in Game 1 of today’s semi-final match, and we wanted to take a moment to explain what was going on.

Going into overtime, the first game between FlipSid3 and C9 was tied at 0-0. About 35 seconds into overtime, the LAN client froze up for a split second. C9 came out on top of the resulting confusion and was able to score a sudden-death goal.

Immediately following the conclusion of that first game, our administrators discussed the situation with both teams, both of whom agreed that the LAN client freeze created a situation that was unfair.

Our administrators then decided that the best way to resolve the situation would be to replay the overtime at the earliest opportunity. This was a decision made by our administrators and then communicated to the teams; the teams accepted our competitive ruling to replay the overtime.

Unfortunately for C9, they ended up losing to FlipSid3 in the replayed overtime. This also turned out to be the deciding match in the best-of-seven series.

We want to thank C9 for their sense of fair play and for upholding such a high standard of integrity in acknowledging the basic unfairness of the situation in Game 1’s overtime. We appreciate the understanding of their players and fans in being great sports.
