John Hastings has been on my radar for many years. I was always impressed with his style and delivery but his material hadn't ever lived up to expectations. However, I'm happy to report that this is his year.
Everything has come together and Hastings is delivering everything he has long promised. It's good old fashioned stand-up story telling but it's done brilliantly. The show is laugh out loud funny in it's entirety, from the opening safety announcement to it's closing call backs.
The story of the show involves John as the victim of a hit and run incident, but what leads from this one tale is a flawless collection of well-crafted and carefully thought out material. John has clearly poured his heart and soul into making this terrific hour and you can tell; the end result is something exquisite.
This show is not just entertaining, it's challenging and thought-provoking yet somehow joyful and light-hearted at the same time. John does not hold back either; he's happy to challenge the audience but this is done in such a way that he's always going to have the upper hand. He makes many good points, the U.S. gun and UK drinking culture comparison were a particular highlight.
This is a well-polished, perfected hour and deserves all the plaudits it receives.
