Questions:

Basic Info:

1. Name, age, neighborhood/city, profession.
Doug Wright
25
Syracuse, NY
Business Development Manager

2. How long into carnivore are you (just meat/ water? fish or other animal products?) How many months/years and what do you eat? Run me through a typical breakfast lunch and dinner...

Over one year to date. 95% ruminant meats, 5% other animal foods such as eggs & fish. Typically skip breakfast & have about one to two lbs of beef mince or steak for lunch & the same amount for dinner, preferably raw/unseasoned, sometimes cooked to blue rare, simply by preference. Also have organ meat 1-2x a week.

3.Tell me how you first started this journey into carnivory. What led you to this diet, and what prompted you to make the switch? (Would love to hear about any books, blogs, people who aided in this)

Was ketogenic for over four years & began to question why vegetables were necessary. Wasn’t getting any ample nutrition from them as none of the vitamins, minerals & protein were readily bioavailable in nature. Have nothing against them if you can tolerate them, but cutting them out had great improvements to my health, personally. Lost a considerable amount of weight while ketogenic before carnivory, well over 140lbs, but never felt good on a high amount of plants. Since transitioning to an all-meat diet, I have never felt more alive. The pain, discomfort & addiction that came from digesting plants is only of memory.

Great sources for carnivory can be found within JustMeat.co by Michael Goldstein (@bitstein).

There were many books, people & blogs that have challenged my beliefs into carnivory.
Books include “Good Calories, Bad Calories”, “The Big Fat Surprise”, “The Fat Of The Land”, “Nutritional & Physical Degeneration” & “The Stone Age Diet”.
People include Amber O’Hearn, Frank Tufano, Shawn Baker, Georgia Ede, Ash Simmonds, Owsley “The Bear” Stanley, Vilhjalmur Steffanson, Barry Groves, Weston A. Price and Dr. Clemens & Toth of Paleomedicina in Hungary.
Blogs & Facebook groups include World Carnivore Tribe (which I am a moderator of), Zero Carb Health, Principia Carnivora and the ZeroCarb & KetoScience subreddits.

4.Has there been social strains to this diet? Is it hard to explain to family and friends? Or are people generally understanding?

Haven’t seen any strains socially within the lifestyle, more curiosity & encouragement from others. Since people have witnessed my drastic health improvements, they seldom give me any hard time explaining my carnivorous lifestyle either. Seeing, and more importantly feeling, is believing.

5. Cravings? When did they stop if ever? Was there a final piece of cake or something like it?

Cravings disappeared after the first week or two into carnivory, no longer did I need the artificial foods (sugars, grains & seed oils) that always held my health back. I firmly believe these foods are the staple of most modern health issues of society today.

6. What's the biggest misconception that people have about the carnivore diet?

The biggest misconceptions come from conventional wisdom & ethical arguments of meat consumption, which are highly misguided. Contrary to popular belief, there is no essential carbohydrate in the human diet, but there sure are essential fats, vitamins, minerals & protein that comes in their most bioavailable form in animal products. Also, understanding that life requires life is important to understanding the ethical arguments surrounding meat consumption as ruminant agriculture is, on the contrary, vital to the overall wellbeing of people & the environment, causing the least amount of animal suffering, just as Mother Nature intended.

7. I've found that this community is extremely active online, and is mostly male from what I've seen. Has that been your experience? Do you think this diet appeals more to men? Why or why not?

I find that to be highly untrue & that assumption based on common, societal norms. From what I’ve seen from the many carnivorous groups I am a part of, there is an even split of men & women, both looking to improve their health.

8. There is a certain anti-vegan streak that I've picked up on. What do you think of vegans? Are you friends with any? Do you feel as though there is political dimension to this diet?

I have no hatred toward vegans, I simply believe they are misguided. Life requires life. They may mean well, but do not understand that they are not only hurting themselves by not incorporating vital animal foods into their diet, but also inadvertently promoting monocropping practices that drive animals out of their homes & leave pastures to waste.

9. How do you respond to detractors, who argue the diet can't possibly be healthy, and/ or are against meat for ethical or environmental reasons.

I challenge them to better understand proper human health from an ancestral point of view & refrain from the conventional wisdom of nutrition which has led us to many of the modern diseases we unfortunately live with today. I also encourage them to better understand the vital role of ruminant agriculture in our ecosystem & circle of life. Peter Ballerstedt (@Grassbased) makes compelling arguments against the demonization of animal foods & their sourcing in his many lectures. Another good read is “The Vegetarian Myth” in this regard by Lierre Keith, a former vegan who learned of this importance firsthand raising her own animals.

10. Any plans on going back? Or re-introducing foods into your diet?

I do not plan to discontinue carnivory as I believe it to be the perfect human diet & feel my best this way.

Bitcoin related qs.

1. Which cryptocurrency (ies) do you work with?

I highly dislike the term “cryptocurrency”. I highly encourage those who are interested to read Saifedean Ammous’s book “The Bitcoin Standard” to better understand that bitcoin is the only form of digital store of value that is of importance. Bitcoin is the only decentralized store of value, under full control of its owner, likely to hold its value into the future due to its expected inflation rate & zero trust needed in others. “Altcoins”, cryptocurrencies other than bitcoin, are nothing more than scams designed by centralized parties to accumulate more bitcoin.

2. What do you think is the connection, if any, between crypto currency and this diet.

While not all who practice carnivory are bitcoin maximalists & not all bitcoin maximalists practice carnivory, they are both similar in that they both are a revolt against their fiat counterparts. Sound money (bitcoin) & sound food (animal products) in a modern society of easy, print money & processed, harmful foods.
Michael Goldstein (@bitstein) said it best: “Bitcoin is a revolt against fiat money, and an all-meat diet is a revolt against fiat food”.

3. I understand the the philosophical connection between alternative money and dieting. I'm wondering If there is a "type" that you believe does this diet. Have you noticed any specific trait within you or your friends that would lend itself to seek out such an admittedly out-of-mainstream way of living?

There is no type of people, nor is there a specific trait, but those who have not found answers within society for their health & store of value issues who have found these lifestyles in a matter of self-research & n=1 experimentation (including me). Many would like to view bitcoin maximalists & carnivory as sort of underground groups, but that’s too simple of thinking. More so, those within these spheres have best understood that bitcoin & carnivory value more than anything else both financial freedom & human health, that which is not found in modern society today.

4. Do you believe there will be a day when most Americans will run on red meat and conduct commerce in crypto? Or do you believe this will remain part of an alternative lifestyle.

I believe that more people will gravitate toward carnivory as more research & information becomes readily available, particularly excited with the work being done by Paleomedicina in Hungary along with other researchers looking into the fallacies of our dietary guidelines such as Nina Teicholz’s in Nutrition Coalition.

I also believe that “hyperbitcoinization”, the swift, global transition of an inferior currency (fiat money) to a superior one (bitcoin), is only a matter of time away. When this happens, expect the “price” of bitcoin to go into the millions (USD) in a short period of time, having it become the new “Gold Standard” in store of value, leveling off in volatility soon after.
