Statement From FCB Chicago Regarding Bullyhunters
Yesterday, I held a long interview with representatives from FCB Chicago in regards to their involvement with the Bullyhunters campaign. Their response is posted below. The delay came as they looked to answer my questions about the recreated game footage and whether or not there was a disclaimer that clearly stated that is what it is. I can't say I find their answer particularly satisfying but they do acknowledge that a line was missed out from the broadcast that would have expressly stated the events were not live and that they couldn't edit it in post.
During the interview they also stated repeatedly that it was all FCB Chicago's idea and that there was no other client besides them. I shall be putting out a video that tells the complete story that will include their transcribed quotes from the interview. For now here is the statement they sent me today.
FCB response to question on disclosure of simulated game footage during live event.
While we did have precise language in the script stating that the live event was a simulation , Natalie accidentally missed the line during the session. She has also admitted this publicly on Twitter.
However, after reviewing the footage of the full event, it was explained during the event that the “Bullyhunts” were not happening live. There are several video posts viewers have shared on social for you to consult to confirm. Since this live event was never intended to be used beyond the launch livestream, we did not have the opportunity add the line in post.
FCB Statement On Bully Hunters
“It was our intent with Bully Hunters to raise awareness about sexual harassment in online gaming and launch a tool that would help end it. We recognize our efforts were less than perfect and apologize – to our supporters, the gaming community and most importantly to those that continue to be bullied. This issue deserves more ways to end it and we look forward to continuing to find them. Until then, we hope the conversation around ending sexual harassment in gaming grows even stronger.”
