The purpose of iBUYPOWER Masters Showdown

Hey everyone,

There seems to be a misunderstanding on the goal of IBP Masters Showdown

First of all, this is not a Smash 4 only event nor is it the main event. This is a side event that is happening on the same weekend as the $100,000 CS:GO Event: IBP Masters that occurs annually.

Main event of IBP Masters: https://www.ibuypower.com/Site/Event/IBP-Masters

When we were first approached to host this event, IBP wants to host a smash event along with their annual event because they love the smash community and wants to host something for the local SoCal scene.

The key part here is that the event is for local SoCal players. This wasn’t meant to attract players worldwide. Smash 4 is not a main event and if you been to the 2015 event, it will be similar to that.

Secondly, this event is part of the IBP: Masters. We didn’t specifically picked this date to host a Smash 4 event but rather it was added on to the CS:GO event. Again, this event is not meant to be big but more so a regional event. We inquire on the calendar on available dates to host a regional socal event and this weekend was open. Even if it wasn’t, this event is meant to just be a local event and not aiming to pull players from around the world. There are many local regional events happening on the same weekend and that’s fine. There are also local region events that happens during S Tier events and that's fine.

You might be asking, if the event is local, why is the prize pool $10,000? You have to understand that this event is part of a $100,000 CS:GO event that they host annually. To us it might seem big but in the overall scope, it’s not. IBP had the budget to provide this prize pool for us and we greatly appreciate them for it.

Should we make the event more “local” by reducing the prize pool to $1,000 when they are willing to support the scene with $10,000? We don’t think so. If IBP have the budget and are willing to do it in order to help our scene grow even more, why decline or reduce it?

We apologize if this event is hurting your events but we have no intention or plan to make this become a super event. It will be for SoCal and our neighbors but of course anyone is more than welcome to attend.

We also apologize that this date might conflict with a smash event already happening but again, this is a side event to an already locked date of their annual CS:GO event which happens on or around Veterans day each year. It’s not a smash 4 focus event that we decided to have on this weekend.

If you have an issue, please DM us or email info@2ggaming.com

Thank you,
Champ
