"It's a legitimate standpoint." USO Coms Head Chris Widmaier, quoted by @johasger answers Wozniacki's criticisms. http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_sport/tennis/us-open-boss-svarer-igen-paa-wozniacki-sviner-derfor-valgte-vi-sharapova/6802202

"Its a legitimate standpoint. But our philosophy, which likely parallels many others, is that her punishment is over. Now Maria Sharapova deserves a new chance.

"Caroline has the right to have an opinion about Maria Sharapova, and we know that there are two opinions about that case. We look at it as, her suspension is over, and now we have to look forward.

"She's a former champion here. We have given other champions wildcards before, when they've needed them: Lleyton Hewitt, Juan Martin Del Potro, Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis have got them.

"It was a really difficult day to schedule, because everything was rained away Tuesday. A lot of matches needed to be placed. As for Caroline, we realised it was a mistake to put her match on Court 5, and an hour-and-a-half later we moved it to Court 17.

"We respect her opinion. It was unfortunate that the matches before hers on that court dragged on so she had to start at 9.10 PM and then play a long match. It was a long day for her, and it must have been hard for her after the match ... "

So you think her criticism was affected by the loss?

"I don't know. I wasn't in the room when she spoke.

"She's twice a finalist here and an absolute fan favourite. We appreciate Caroline very highly. She's an exemplary player and has been fantastic for the US Open. She has a great personality and is a pleasure to work with.

"We've listened to what she said and we'll take it into account when we schedule matches in the future."
