Natalie Palamides: Laid #edfringe review #Edinburgh

It's not often you leave a show asking yourself "what just happened?", but that's exactly how you feel after this surreal hour of comedy.

"Laid" somehow gets a lot stranger before it gets clearer. Don't get me wrong though; it comes together towards the end, however you still leave the venue pinching yourself to check that it wasn't just a dream.

It's a tough one to review and if I wrote what actually happened throughout this crazy hour then you would probably want to give it a miss. But believe me, you don't want to miss this. It follows the life cycle of an egg and I think the egg came first? Come along; you'll be surprised at how hilarious it can be.

It's not 100% reliant on crowd participation but it does make it all the more fun. We witnessed one or two begrudged faces and even walkouts at the second viewing. Saying that though, we witnessed far more tear-inducing hysterical laughter.

It may claim a few victims along the way, but Palamides knows this. Rather than back away from an awkward situation she pushes it all the more and to great comedic effect.

"Laid" has to be witnessed to be believed; no wonder it's the show everyone is talking about. I would be very surprised not to see her name on the award nominations because this is a truly stunning debut.
