Marjolein Robertson: Relations #edfringe review #edinburgh

The show is called 'Relations' but this is only a loose theme and the comedian knows that; she takes time to breakdown the show and explain how this title fits. What the show really is, is an inside look at what it is like to stay on a remote Scottish island like Shetland. Some of the crowd seem be from the Island or have a connection to it which sets a friendly atmosphere.

'Relations' is an inside look at the comedian's life as she openly shares her stories. Drunken antics with family and friends, what it's like to live on such a small island and - the highlight for me - her not so successful love life; they all really help to paint a picture of what life is like back home. Using Tinder on a remote island is not something that had ever crossed my mind and, evidently, you have more chance of finding family members before you'll find love.

These tales all seem true and I like that, however sometimes the punchline isn't as powerful as the amusing build-up had promised; a little exaggeration wouldn't go a miss. I'm aware that this probably wouldn't work so well on Shetland but she needs to look at the bigger picture when down in a city like Edinburgh.

She doesn't come across as shy, however she doesn't quite own the stage and she should be more confident because she definitely has the ability. Marjolein Robertson is a rough diamond who just needs a little polish to shine.
