My Analysis of the Combat Update

I'd like to start this off by saying I'm not someone with thousands of hours on H1. I have played 15 hours of just this combat patch and I do plan on playing more and this is my opinion on the past two days. What I lack in experience in H1 I feel like I more than make up in other experiences. I have played CS since 1.3 (2001). I have witnessed that game grow and turn out amazing because it listened to the community which was a lot harder back then. Then the game tried to be different and CS:S came out and almost killed the entire CS scene because they tried to reinvent the wheel and be a whole new game rather than keep the mechanics that made CS what is was. No amount of tournaments or events could save it. I honestly feel like H1 is following the same path.

So to begin...

First off there has been a lot of comparison between PUBG and H1 after this patch. While I do think some things would be good QoL changes to transition over the movement wasn't one of them. There was nothing wrong with the movement on the live server other than the skipping that would occur when ENASing. Changing the movement (or anything) just to make a change is never productive.

AR - What did you do? All the community wanted was vertical recoil. That's it. I understand you wanting to give each gun a role but you butchered the AR. Two tapping is non-existent. It's more like two single shots. It takes a over half a second for the recoil to reset compared to the .25ms on live. My suggestion is to revert the AR back to live. Add the vertical recoil and make it get bigger the more the gun is spammed. Control taps should ALWAYS go where you are aiming. I know you said in my tweet that if you did all of this, with the effective range it would be to broken. I will deal with the bullet drop issue now but it applies to every gun. What you did was basically turn the game into hitscan, but worse because there is still a travel time. You removed all skill gap in shooting by remove the bullet drop also. What you did just with the AR and the general mechanics of the gun made you go from a huge positive difference to PUBG to a worse imitation of PUBG.

AK - The AK on live is alright. It is a lot better than what is currently on the test server. The way you can spray the AK now and just pull down is absurd. It's like playing CSGO. You just shifted the mouse 1 meta with the AR to the AK. I suggest bringing back the current live server AK and add a lot more vertical recoil. This will force people to use controlled bursts.

Shotgun - Really not much has changed imo so I don't have an opinion on this.

Hellfire - I am keeping my opinion on this quite because there are upcoming changes and I will wait for those.

Magnum - Like the Hellfire I will wait until the update comes out. All I can say was what were you guys thinking.

Crouching - Personally I like the direction you guys were going with this to prevent crouch spamming but it is way to slow. I am getting headshotted a lot easier now because the crouch time is so slow when hiding behind cars. I think it just needs to be raised slightly or add in a stamina system like CSGO has.

Nades - I fully agree with what gabe said in his feedback about the weight of the nades. It is SO much easier to just spam grenades at people. With this little change I think nades would be fine.

POIs - For the love of everything holy stop adding in more POIs. It is hard enough to find people now because the majority of the playerbase just hides. At the game fights it turns into who has the best building to camp in rather than actually fighting. I think the live patch has just the right amount of POIs. I know you guys would hate to just remove the new POIs because of the work you did on them so maybe switch out old ones and put in new ones to stop the map from getting so cluttered.

Any Devs that read this or anyone that follows closely on reddit knows I am and have always been a big advocate of the Devs and the game in general. I have always given them the benefit of the doubt. But as the patch stands right now, you guys messed up. I know it has only been two days since the release and many things will change but if the weapons don't get fixed like the majority of the community wants I believe I will be quitting. I know it means nothing, I'm a nobody, but I know others feel the same way. Right now the game is just not fun any more. On live I was always like "Solos suck but the game can still be competitive in tournaments." As of right now I can't even say that.

You need to listen to your community. Listen to the people who put in as much hours playing your game as you do coding it. I understand it is your baby and you don't want people telling you how to raise it, but if you want it to be successful you need to.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers.
