Epsilon eSports vs NiRvAnA - ROG MASTERS Open Qualifier EMEA

Hello @BARBARRcs, @Epsilon_eSports and CS:GO community,

To give a better overall perspective on the situation, you can find a timeline below of what happened Monday night in the match between Epsilon eSports and NiRvAnA in the first round of the ROG MASTERS Open Qualifier EMEA (times in CEST): https://csgo.rog-masters.com/en/leagues/matches/321307-epsilon-esports-vs-nirvana

18:43 – Mapveto ended on the match page
18:49 – Server was request on the match page
19:00 – Official Match start for round 1 matches
19:06 – First Support Ticket created by Nirvana stating issues to join the server (At that time 7 players on the server)
19:09 & 19:10 – Nirvana communicates server join issues in match comments
19:14 – Second Support Ticket was created by Nirvana asking for a server change
19:16 – The admin stopped the match on the server so a new server can be requested to play on. This is also communicated via rcon say on the first server.
19:20 – Epsilon communicates in match comments that Nirvana is not joining the server. No support ticket created by Epsilon in order to reach out to admins
19:20 to 19:40 – both teams communicate in match comments about join issues or asking for defwin
19:28 – On the original server a new match was set up and two other teams joined the server
19:33 – New server is requested; Nirvana able to join, Epsilon not joining the new server
19:52 – Third Support by Nirvana informing admin about Epsilon not joining the new server
20:00 – Default win given to Nirvana
20:02 – Epsilon creates first support ticket and restart communication in match comments

Before I go into an explanation of the ruling in this matter, let me quickly introduce myself: I am Tim aka Donathan, Head of Tournament at Freaks 4U Gaming and thereby also supervising the ROG MASTERS Open Qualifier EMEA.

At the beginning of the qualifier, both teams were available to play, were active in the match comments and started with the usual match preparations. As Nirvana later had problems joining the server, they reached out to the admins at 19:06 and 19:14 via support ticket and asked for a server change. The admin then stopped the match (30 minutes after the server was request and 16 minutes after the official match start of round 1 in the qualifier) in order for teams being able to request a new server. In general, teams have to make a location vote before requesting the server, so this was either done before the mapveto was started, or teams could start this procedure at least at this point in time, and then request a new server for that location. This was also communicated via rcon say on the server itself via hlsw.

At 19:33 a new server was requested and Nirvana was able to join that server. Epsilon on the other hand did not join this server, so that Nirvana later reached out to the admins via support ticket again at 19:52. As Epsilon was not seen on the server 27 minutes after the server request, stopped communicating in the match comments after 19:34 and did not reach out to the administration via support ticket, a default win had been granted to Nirvana at 20:00.
Even when a new match was started on the first server at 19:28 by the tournament system and both teams were communicating in the match comments, Epsilon did not create a support ticket to reach out to the admins. They only restarted communication in the match comments and created a support ticket after 20:00 when the default result was already confirmed on the website.

Teams are instructed to always contact admins via support ticket when they are facing any problems for a direct way of communicating with the admins in a proper way. This is written in the rules and in the qualifier help section on the website. In addition, all teams received an email to their contact email added in their profile, as well as every individual player to the email that is connected with their user account on rog-masters.com, with the most important information about the qualifier including how to create a support ticket in case admin assistance is needed.

Epsilon eSports did not follow this procedure whilst NiRvAnA reached out to the admins multiple times and followed the instructions trying to solve the situation. Whilst the overall situation is of course unfortunate for Epsilon, the decision by the admin was correct according to the rules and given the circumstances described above.

Best regards,
Tim aka Donathan
